What we do
GB-Commtrade (GBC) is a family run and owned business that began operations in 1999. We have strong, long-standing relationships with top suppliers and consistently evaluate their ability to uphold and enhance competitiveness and quality. Our dedicated team actively explores global sourcing opportunities to secure the best products from approved suppliers at competitive prices.
How we started
GB-Commtrade (GBC) has always been a family run and owned business since it began operations in 1999. Prior to starting GBC, Gerard Brunton was managing the nut & dried fruit division of a large commodity trading company since 1984. After 15 years he established GBC together with his wife Karen and Hilton and Wendy Lobb. The business grew quickly over the next decade with many amazing people joining the team that would remain close friends and still part of the GBC family.
In 2007 Gerard and Karen acquired the other half of the business from Hilton and Wendy. Hilton passed shortly thereafter and will forever be admired and remembered by everyone that met him.
GBC has grown into a well-respected food business, now managed together by Gerard and his son Will Brunton, who has already been in this family business since 2009.
In 2024, we celebrated 25 years of GBC and 40 years for Gerard in the nut business!
